Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how BingeMates LLC ("BingeMates," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the BingeMates mobile application (the "App") and our website at bingemates.com (the "Site"). By using the App or the Site, you agree to the practices described here.

Information we collect

We collect only the information needed to run a social TV-tracking service:

• Account & authentication. Your email address, and, if you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, the account identifier and email those providers share with us. We use these to create and secure your account.
• Profile information. Your username, full name, and optionally a short bio and a profile photo (avatar) that you provide.
• Your activity. The shows you rate, reviews you write, your watch status (e.g., "watching" or "want to watch"), your connections with other users ("BingeMates"), and interactions such as likes.
• Limited technical data. Basic information needed to operate and secure the service, such as session and log data associated with your requests to our backend.
• Invite requests. If you email us from the Site to request an invitation, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use it only to reply and to send you an invitation.
• Safety reports. If you report another user, we record who you reported, the reason you chose, any details you write, and a copy of the reported content as it appeared at the time.

We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, or payment information, and we do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.

How we use your information

• To provide the App's core features, including tracking and rating shows, showing your friends' activity, and generating recommendations from your accepted BingeMates.
• To create, authenticate, and secure your account.
• To send transactional emails you request or that are necessary to operate your account (for example, email confirmation and password resets).
• To review reports of offensive content or behavior, enforce our Terms, and protect our users.
• To maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the App.

How your information is shared

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for third-party advertising. We share information only as follows:

• With other users, by design. Your public profile fields (username, name, avatar, and bio) are visible to other authenticated users. Your ratings, reviews, watch status, and activity are visible to the friends ("BingeMates") whose requests you have accepted. Aggregate counts on your profile — how many BingeMates, ratings, and reviews you have — are visible to any signed-in user. These counts do not identify which shows you rated or what you wrote. The list of BingeMates you have accepted is likewise visible to your accepted BingeMates. You control your connections and can remove or block other users.
• Service providers that operate the App on our behalf:
  • Supabase: hosts our database, authentication, and file storage (including your data and avatar images).
  • Resend: delivers our transactional emails (processes your email address to send confirmation and password-reset messages).
  • Google and Apple: process your sign-in if you choose those authentication options.
  • The Movie Database (TMDB): provides the TV show information the App displays. We request show details through our own servers, so TMDB does not learn who you are from those requests. Show images (posters and backdrops) load directly from TMDB's image servers, which means TMDB receives your device's IP address and the images requested. We send TMDB no account information.
• Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or security of our users or the App.

Data retention and deletion

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and associated data at any time from within the App (Settings → Delete account). Deleting your account removes your profile, ratings, reviews, watch status, connections, and stored avatar. If a safety report has been filed about your account — or by you about another user — we keep that report, including the copy of the reported content it recorded, after the account is deleted, so that a report cannot be erased by the person it concerns. The user IDs it contains are unlinked at deletion, and we use these records only for safety, enforcement, and legal purposes. Some limited records may also be retained where required by law.

Where we operate and where your information is processed

The App is intended for use only by residents of the United States. BingeMates LLC is based in the United States, and the App is controlled and operated from the United States. The information described in this policy is stored and processed in the United States by us and by the service providers listed above.

If you choose to access or use the App from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local laws. By using the App from outside the United States, you acknowledge and consent to the transfer of your information to the United States, where it will be stored and processed, and where data protection laws may differ from those of the country in which you reside.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and row-level access controls that restrict data to you and the friends you have approved. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

BingeMates is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices and rights

You can review and update your profile information, control who you connect with, and delete your account at any time from within the App. Deleting your account is self-service and immediate — you do not need to contact us to exercise it.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information, such as rights to access, correct, or delete it. To make a request, contact us at info@bingemates.com from the email address associated with your account, which is how we confirm that a request is really yours.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" above. Material changes will be reflected in the App or by other reasonable means.
